From Eden to the New Earth — the seventh-day Sabbath stands as God's eternal memorial of creation, His sign of sanctification, and the great test of loyalty in the closing scenes of earth's history.

🌿 From the Beginning
The Sabbath was made for all humanity — before sin, before Israel, before the law at Sinai.
🌍 Creation — Genesis 2:1–3
"Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made."
— Genesis 2:1–3 (KJV)
God blessed the seventh day. He sanctified it. He rested upon it. This was done before any Jewish nation existed.
✝️ Made for Man — Mark 2:27–28
"And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath."
— Mark 2:27–28 (KJV)
Jesus declares the Sabbath was "made for man" — for all humanity. He is its Lord, not its abolisher.
"The Sabbath was made for man. It was instituted in Eden, before the fall, and has come down to us through all generations. It was given to all mankind. God designed that it should be a perpetual memorial of His creative power."
— Ellen G. White, The Signs of the Times, June 12, 1893
📖 What the Bible Says
From Genesis to Revelation, the Sabbath is woven into the fabric of God's covenant.
📜 The Fourth Commandment — Exodus 20:8–11
"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God... For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."
— Exodus 20:8–11 (KJV)
The word "Remember" shows this was not a new institution — it was calling back to memory what already existed from creation.
🕊️ A Sign of Sanctification — Ezekiel 20:12, 20
"Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them... and hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God."
— Ezekiel 20:12, 20 (KJV)
🔮 The Sabbath in the New Earth — Isaiah 66:22–23
"For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD... from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD."
— Isaiah 66:22–23 (KJV)
⚖️ Jesus and the Apostles — Luke 4:16; Acts 17:2
"And he came to Nazareth... and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read." — Luke 4:16
"And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures." — Acts 17:2
— KJV
Both Christ and the apostles kept the Sabbath as their custom — decades after the resurrection.
🔄 The Change of the Sabbath
How the seventh day was displaced by the first day.
📖 The Little Horn — Daniel 7:25
"And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws."
— Daniel 7:25 (KJV)
The Papacy "thought to change" God's law — and the change of the Sabbath from the seventh to the first day is its most visible fulfillment.
🏛️ The Papal Admission
"The Church changed the observance of the Sabbath to Sunday by reason of her own power, without any warrant from the Gospel."
— Catholic Record, London, Ontario, Sept 1, 1923
"Sunday is a Catholic institution, and its claims to observance can be defended only on Catholic principles."
— Louis Veuillot, cited in The Great Controversy, p. 447
"It is the work of Satan who has used the papal power to exalt himself as supreme, above God, and institute a rival sabbath, to make of none effect the day God has sanctified and blessed."
— Ellen G. White, Ms 110, 1893
🔏 The Seal of God vs. The Mark of the Beast
The great final test — whom will you obey?
🕊️ Seal of God
The seventh-day Sabbath (Exodus 20:8–11)
Sign of loyalty to the Creator (Ezekiel 20:20)
Placed in the forehead — intelligent, voluntary choice
Received before the close of probation
"Blessed are they that do his commandments" (Rev 22:14)
🐉 Mark of the Beast
The first-day Sunday (spurious sabbath)
Sign of loyalty to the Papacy (Daniel 7:25)
Placed in forehead or hand — forced or consensual
Received when Sunday law is obeyed knowingly
"If any man worship the beast... drink of the wine of God's wrath" (Rev 14:9–10)
📯 The Third Angel's Message — Revelation 14:9–12
"And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God... Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."
— Revelation 14:9–12 (KJV)
"The Sabbath is the sign of God; it is the seal of his law... The sign or seal of God is his Sabbath, and the seal or mark of the beast is in direct opposition to it; it is a counterfeit Sabbath on the 'day of the sun.'"
— Ellen G. White, The Spirit of Prophecy, vol. 4, p. 505.3
"If the light of truth has been presented to you, revealing the Sabbath of the fourth commandment... and yet you still cling to the false Sabbath... you receive the mark of the beast."
— Ellen G. White, The Review and Herald, July 13, 1897

📜 Spirit of Prophecy
Ellen G. White on the Sabbath — the seal of the living God.
"The importance of the Sabbath as the memorial of creation is that it keeps ever present the true reason why worship is due to God... The Sabbath therefore lies at the very foundation of divine worship."
— Ellen G. White, The Great Controversy, p. 437.2
"The Sabbath institution, which originated in Eden, is as old as the world itself... In order to obliterate God from the minds of men, Satan aimed to tear down this great memorial."
— Ellen G. White, Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 336.2
"The proclamation of the third angel's message is our work. We are to present the truth in regard to the Sabbath of the Lord. God's memorial of creation has been torn down, and in its place there stands a false sabbath."
— Ellen G. White, The Review and Herald, August 5, 1902
"This is the test that the people of God must have before they are sealed. All who prove their loyalty to God by observing his law, and refusing to accept a spurious Sabbath, will rank under the banner of the Lord God Jehovah, and will receive the seal of the living God."
— Ellen G. White, The 1888 Materials, p. 701.1

🙏 A Prayer for the Sabbath
Consecrate your heart to the Lord of the Sabbath.
🕊️ Prayer of Consecration
Heavenly Father, Creator of heaven and earth,
I thank You for the gift of the Sabbath — Your holy day,
blessed and sanctified from the foundation of the world.
I confess that I have often neglected this precious truth.
Today, I choose to honor You as my Creator
by keeping the seventh day holy, as Your Word commands.
Seal this truth upon my heart.
Let the Sabbath be a sign between You and me,
that I may know that You are the LORD who sanctifies me.
Prepare me for that soon-coming day
when the whole world will be tested on this very question.
Give me courage to stand for Your truth,
and grace to be among those who
"keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus."
